Naginata
Naginata refers to both a traditional Japanese weapon composed of
a sword blade mounted on a long staff and the martial art focused
on its use. Originally a battlefield weapon, it was adopted during
the Edo period by samurai women as a means for defending the home.
Since then, in Japan, it has been practiced primarily by women.
This is a fascinating area of study for those who are interested
in Japanese women's issues.
