Professor Gary G. Xu (Ph.D., Columbia University) specializes in modern Chinese literature, Chinese cinema, and critical theories. Besides EALC, he is also affiliated with the Program in Comparative and World Literature, the Unit for Cinema Studies, and the Unit for Criticism and Interpretative Theories. He is the author of Sinascape: Contemporary Chinese Cinema (2007) and co-editor (with Vinay Dharwadker) of The Greenwood Encyclopedia of World Popular Culture: Asia and Oceania (2007). He is currently working on cinematic violence, affects, and gender politics in modern China.
