Anyone who majored or minored in East Asia particularly during
the 1970s, 80s and 90s was a risk-taker who was not afraid of the
unknown, and was willing to be moved by curiosity and passion, drive
and dedication. At a time when the world scarcely realized that East
Asia existed, our students recognized its historic significance and
its contemporary vitality. They immersed themselves in profoundly
different languages and cultures, and in many cases tested their knowledge
by living abroad in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. EALC alumni have
taken the skills they gained during the studies and deployed them
with great success in a wide range of professional pursuits.
Our students have gone on to illustrious scholarly careers in East
Asian studies - art history, history, literature, anthropology and
language teaching - at research universities and liberal arts colleges
both. Our alumni thrive in the worlds of business and law as well.
We count among them CEOs, Wall Street financiers, and leading figures
in international law. We are proud of our alumni and their accomplishments,
and the role of EALC in allowing them to hone the skills that have
guaranteed their professional success. We love to hear where you
are and what you're doing.
