"Professor Kelsky's Best of Champaign Urbana"
*
I. Shopping
* Euromart: Good place for European foods, cheese and olives, on
Green near Neil.
* Amko: Mediocre Asian grocery, biggest in town, on Springfield
by 1st.
* Green Onion: Nicest and freshest Asian grocery store on Neil.
* Sunsinger Wine: On Windsor. Has gourmet cheese and wine and chocolate!
* Schnucks in Urbana: Good market for organic products, friendly.
* County Market: Out on Kirby in Chmp, excellent sushi (by U-C standards).
* Trout 45: Out on Neil, fish market, wine and gourmet food
* Mirabelle in Urbana: Good pastry shop, if it is still open.
* Strawberry Fields: Organic, alternative foods, herbs and teas,
on Springfield in Urbana; albeit annoyingly overpriced.
* Dandelion: An excellent hip used clothing boutique for those so
inclined.
* Meijer: Meijer is overall the best general shopping for groceries
and your general household goods, and now carries a pretty good
line of organic goods, although not produce. Also, imported cheese
kind of nonchalantly heaped in a pile next to the deli. The prices
are about half of the ritzy places.
II. Downtown Champaign
* Kofusion: Asian-American fusion cuisine, very popular.
* Jim Gould's: New restaurant next door to Kofusion, "best
new restaurant in Champaign," has Sunday brunch
* Bacaro: Expensive, gourmet food, small servings.
* Boltini's: Nice bar for a quiet mixed drink in an adult setting.
* Aroma and Cafe Kopi are coffee shops in downtown Champaign. I
recommend a leisurely stroll through downtown Champaign.
* The Blind Pig: Good laid-back bar.
* Persimmon: Gourmet grocery store.
* Radio Maria: Best restaurant in the area.
III. Other Restaurants
* Mandarin Wok: Reputed to be the best Chinese restaurant in town
but recently owner changed.
* Golden Wok: Thai cuisine on University Avenue.
* Tang Dynasty: Considered by EALC faculty best Chinese in town.
* Dorcas: Korean restaurant on Green St.
* Cafe Za's: Chain coffee shop, good sandwiches, cakes and coffee
* Milos: Excellent restaurant, unpretentious. Milo's is in Urbana,
in the sad Lincoln Square shopping mall.
* Timpone's: Italian; Karen considers overrated
* Cafe Luna: Tapas, excellent food, small portions but worth it.
On Green Street, a walking distance from campus.
